New Rooftop Solar Subsidy Scheme in Tamil Nadu 2026: Subsidy up to Rs 1 Lakh – Details

Government of Tamil Nadu announced their new scheme for the people of the state in collaboration with the Central Government scheme, i.e. Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The scheme is introduced as the New Rooftop Solar Subsidy Scheme. In this scheme, all consumers of the Electricity Department who have a domestic electricity connection will get the subsidy benefits, which is up to Rs.1 lakh. These subsidy benefits will be given to them on the installation of a rooftop solar panel for 3KW. In the Centre Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, the subsidy amount is only Rs.78,000 maximum. 

To implement this scheme, the state government also provides Rs. 50 crore, and now the government has instructed the officials to improve the rooftop solar capacity, which is lower than in other states of India.

To get the subsidy of Rs.1 lakh, the government offers domestic consumers in the state of Tamil Nadu to install the Rooftop Solar panel under Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. To run this scheme smooth government also allocated 50 Crore rupees. By launching this scheme, the state government wants to boost rooftop solar across the state. Who Can Qualify: Eligibility Criteria?

• Applicant must be a resident of Tamil Nadu, and you have Residential or domestic Electricity consumer.
• Also have legal ownership of the property over which you are going to install the panel.
• You have not received benefits from any other rooftop solar subsidy scheme before this.
• The roof must be shed-free, and the area required is 100 sq. ft. for 1KW and 300 sq. ft. for 3kW.
• You can install the solar panel through the registered solar vendor of the scheme.

• Applicant’s Aadhaar Card which is linked with your Mobile Number
• Property or Roof ownership proof or property tax documents.
• Bank account details to get the subsidy amount.

• The maintenance for this Panel by the registered vendor is free for 5 years.
• There are no expenses you have to bear for replacement of batteries and maintenance.
• Consumers can also apply for a collateral-free loan.
• You can reduce your total cost of installation of a solar panel, which is upto Rs.1 lakh.

Application Process for Tamil Nadu New Rooftop Solar Subsidy Scheme

• Need to visit the central government official website of Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Portal.
• Have to find the link for Rooftop Solar and then select your State as Tamil Nadu.
• Now, in the state of Tamil Nadu, you have to select the company who distribute the electricity i.e. TANGEDCO.
• Kindly put your consumer number available on your monthly bill receipt and then verify the same with your mobile number after generating the OTP.
• After entering the OTP, you can create your consumer profile here.
• Now, using your Consumer ID and Mobile number, log in to your account.
• Have to select the capacity of the Solar Panel according to the area of the roof and then fill the application form.
• Submit your form along with the documents and then wait for the approval.
• Before approval, local field officials verify your capacity and your residential area.
• In between the verification, you can also check the status of your submitted application form from time to time. When it turns approved, you will get the Empanelled Solar Vendor List. You need to choose from the same list.
• Then finalise the same and then give the contract to the same vendor.
• Then the vendor will come to you and also carry the DCR to maintain the subsidy.
• When the vendor successfully installs the system on your roof, they will upload the documents to the system.
• After it the TANGEDO will change your old meter with smart meters, and you will get the certificate.
• Now again login in to your account to apply for subsidy and submit all the bank details with a cancelled cheque.
• Then get the subsidy amount as per the capacity of solar.
