Tamil Nadu Government has now made a new announcement in favour of GIG Workers of the state. In their new announcement, they have doubled the Accident Insurance coverage up to Rs.10 lakhs, and the new skill training program has also started, in which all the registered GIG workers will get training for overseas Jons. The name of this program is Vettri Karangal Scheme.

Vettri Karangal Scheme
The Labour Welfare Minister, Mr J Mohamed Farvas, announced this new training program for the construction workers. Under this program, only registered construction workers will be trained by the state government to get jobs according to their skills. The same program is implemented all over the state with its official name “Vettri Karangal Scheme”.

In this scheme, a total of 1000 construction workers are going to be covered, and then the government will provide them international skill training. Objective of scheme
It is automatically known that after getting the international skill training and foreign language training, they will all be eligible to get jobs abroad. This is the time when the government self come with them to provide them with overseas employment opportunities. So the main objective of this scheme is to improve their work skills, and then, after getting jobs abroad, they also enhance their livelihood.
Highlights of the International Skill Training Program of Tamil Nadu
- To scale up the skills of the construction workers, this international skill training will be given to the construction workers.
- Only 1000 registered construction workers will be eligible to get International skill training under the TN Vettri Karangal Scheme.
- But in this scheme, as part of the program, other 50,000 registered construction workers also get 7 days of training in masonry, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical work, painting, etc.
- During their 7-day training, they also received Rs.800 from the government as compensation for wage loss.
Benefits Given Under Scheme
- Once the registered worker of the state get this International skill training under the Vettri Karangal scheme, they are all eligible to get overseas employment and earn more for their families.
- Apart from other 50,000 workers also get skill-up training for 7 days, and during this time they also get compensation for wage loss, which is Rs.800/-.
- The accident insurance coverage is also enhanced for GIG workers, which is up to Rs.10 Lakhs.
- Apart from the above, the government is also going to bear the interest on the bank loan which is taken by the 1,000 GIG workers to purchase the e-bikes.
- Temporary Shelters also be made by the Government with basic amenities in the same place for the migrant workers in metropolitan areas like Chennai and Coimbatore.
- The 50 facilitation centres will also be set up by the government in the location which are near the workers.

Eligibility Required
To get the benefits under the Vettri Karangal Scheme, you need to qualify for the eligibility conditions of the scheme.
- All permanent residents of Tamil Nadu state.
- The citizen must be a valid and active registration members of the TNCWWB (Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board).
- The age of the construction workers must be between 18 and 60 years.
- The workers can be active as manual or construction workers.
- Must have experience in work and have at least 90 days of work experience in the last 12 months.
- You must not come in any of the organized sector social security scheme.
For Overseas Training
- 1000 workers will be selected who have work experience in the same construction trade.
- Who are interested and willing to understand and get training in a foreign language.
- Workers must also have a valid Indian passport.

TN Vettri Karangal Scheme: Apply For Training
- The online application process is maintained by the TNCWWB Board of the Tamil Nadu state through their official portal.
- Need to visit the official TNUWWB Portal.
- Now, using your Registered mobile number and your labour registration number, log in using the Worker Login link.
- Now check your Registration Status; if Active, then apply; if not, then renew the same.
- Then visit the scheme section available on the portal, and here you will get the active scheme list, like Vettri Karangal Scheme.
- Now select the scheme name, i.e. Domestic skill training or Overseas special skill training.
- Need to upload all the relevant documents and submit after previewing the form.
