Matsyakara Sevalo Scheme In AP, Fisherman Benefits and Eligibility

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has released Rs 262 crore in financial support to the fishermen’s families. This amount will be given in the form of compensation to the fisherman’s family for not fishing during the fishing ban period. This financial support will be provided under the Matsyakara Sevalo Scheme. In their recent announcement, 1,30,796 fisherman families will get the benefit of this scheme. To provide the benefit of the scheme, CM visit Thummalapenta village in Nellore District.

Matsyakara Sevalo Scheme

All types of marine fishing activities are suspended for 61 days during the breeding period of fish. This activity time interval starts from the 15th of April to the 14th of June 2026. During that period, no one is allowed to do fishing. Andhra Pradesh government also takes care of fishermen’s families and helps them financially with this scheme, so the family do not face any type of financial Crisis. Under the Matsyakara Sevalo Scheme, the Andhra Pradesh government provide Rs 20,000 financial support to each eligible family.

Before the election, the NDA promised fishermen that they would increase the financial assistance amount from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000. In the previous YSR government, this amount was Rs 10,000 per year. In the year 2024-25, Rs 243 crore will be provided to 1,21,433 families. Now, for this year 2025-26, the financial support amount is increased to Rs 260 crore. This amount will be given directly into the bank account of the fishermen. There is no middleman involved in this process, so beneficiaries will get the amount directly through DBT.

This is a seasonal financial assistance provided for the fishermen due to their loss in the marine fishing season, due to a ban on fishing. This is the breeding period of fish, and Fishing is not allowed at that time. So the fishermen had to face a financial crisis at that time due to no work. So the state government will compensate them with a compensation amount of Rs 20,000 to each family. Apart from this, if any fisherman dies due to any accident while fishing, the government will provide them with separate compensation. In the year 2024-25, the government will settle 63 claims with an amount of Rs 3.15 Crore. In the year 2025-26, the government will clear 113 pending claims of Rs 5.65 crore.

Eligibility Criteria Of Matsyakara Sevalo Scheme

• Only the registered fishermen in Andhra Pradesh are eligible for this scheme.
• Families who are totally dependent upon sea fishing for their livelihood are eligible for this scheme.
• Both male and female fishermen are eligible for this scheme.
• Fishermen who are the owners of mechanised boats will be exempted from this scheme.
• Fishermen who violate the Ban Period will not get the benefit of the scheme.
• The beneficiary bank account should be linked with Aadhaar.
