In 2026, the festival is going to be celebrated from August 16 to August 26, 2026. Now, before the start of this Festival, the government is completing all the formalities and is going to distribute the Kerala Free Onam Kits 2026 to all the eligible families of the state. The Distribution of the kits is going to start from 10 August to 25 August. The announcement about this has been made by Anoop Jacob, Food and Civil Supplies Minister of the state. As per his announcement, he said that the government is completing all the preparations before the Onam festival, and now it is the final Phase of their Preparation.
To start the Distribution of Onam Kits, the State government also released the fund of Rs.53 Crore. All the AAY ration card-holder families are going to receive the Onam Kit from the government. A total of 6,09,305 Kits are going to be distributed with a cloth bag and 16 Essential Items included in the Kits. The total Cost of this Onam Kit is about Rs.854.
Kerala Onam Kit Scheme
It is very happy to know that the government wants to support all the eligible families to celebrate this Onam Festival. So for that, the Government has now decided to distribute the Onam Kit to all the Yellow ration card holders or AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) Ration card holders from 10 August. The distribution of these kits will be complete before Uthradom Day, i.e. on 25 August.

About Special Rice Distribution Scheme Kerala
To celebrate this Festival happily, the government also started its Special Rice Distribution scheme for the Non-Priority Ration card holders of the state, which started from August 2026. Under the Free Rice Distribution, the Blue ration Holder will get 3 KG rice at just Rs.10.90 per kg and 2KG wheat at the price of Rs.8.70 per Kg. And for the smooth distribution of Rice and Wheat government also makes the availability of 1,65,932 Metric Tones of Rice and Wheat in 24,506 Metric Tonnes.
How to Collect Onam Free Kits Kerala?
- First of all, you have to know about the Distribution Date of kits, i.e. from 10 to 25 August; then you have to visit the nearest or your local PDS shop.
- Then at the shop, you have to show your Ration Card and then complete the Biometric verification at the PDS Counter.
- Now Get your Kit.
- Visit the shop to collect your Kit on time.
NOTE: For Orphanage Home and Welfare Home, the Kits are directly delivered to them.

Update: Kerala Food and civil supply department now completed its Onam kit distribution process. In this scheme, 593,408 kits were distributed. These kits are prepared by Supplyco and delivered to Ration Shops. In this target 8902 Kits are alos added supply to welfare institutions. The total number of Onam kits prepared is 602,310.
