The Telangana Government is planning to launch the Mahalakshmi Smart Card on 2nd June 2026. This is a special day because it is Telangana formation day. Under this scheme, the government will provide free bus travel to women in TGSRTC buses. In the initial launch, this scheme is started on a pilot basis, and one mandal will be selected in every District. According to the officials, we will remove all the glitches and Technical difficulties from the scheme, then launch it all over the state.
Mahalakshmi Smart Card
The Mahalakshmi zero ticket scheme was initially launched 2023 in the month of December. In this name, the government will give the facility of free bus travel to all women through the State Road Transport Corporation. To take the benefit of free bus travel, females have to show the Aadhaar card only, and it is a manual verification system. Now the government has planned to launch the Mahalakshmi smart card, which is more efficient and makes this process more convenient for both the passengers and the conductor. This will help to make the complete process streamlined and also improve the transparency.
In the new Mahalakshmi smart card, integrated with a chip, name, photograph and one QR code with some basic details are mentioned on this card. This card will be linked with the user’s Aadhaar. It is very easy to use, and users can simply scan this card when taking any bus, and it will fast-track the complete ticketing process. This process will make the identification process easier for conductors.

Objective of the Mahalakshmi Smart Card
The main objective behind the launch of the scheme is to empower women and support them financially, and reduce their dependency on others. This scheme was initially started with the name of the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which is one of 6 guarantee schemes of Congress. This is a women’s empowerment scheme in which the state government will help women economically, financially, and women from the economically weaker section will take various benefits of these schemes. Free bus travel is also a part of this scheme, and the government is now planning to provide a smart card for women for easy bus travel. These smart cards are linked with their Aadhaar, and it is easy to track all the services of all beneficiaries with this one card.
Eligible women can apply for this smart card from MeeSeva centres and TGSRTC bus pass counters. For registration, applicants have to submit their Aadhaar card and a passport-size photograph with their mobile number. The card will be issued after some time when the processing is completed. With the smart card, take the benefit of free bus travel. It is estimated that once the implementation process of smart cards is completed, it will become mandatory for everyone.
