The Telangana Government is planning to launch the Mahalakshmi Smart Card on 2nd June 2026. This is a special day because it is Telangana Formation Day. Under this scheme, the government will provide free bus travel to women on TGSRTC buses. In the initial launch, this scheme will be started on a pilot basis, and one mandal will be selected in every District. According to the officials, we will remove all the glitches and Technical difficulties from the scheme, then launch it all over the state.

Mahalakshmi Smart Card

The Mahalakshmi zero ticket scheme was initially launched 2023 in the month of December. In this scheme, the government will give the facility of free bus travel to all women through the State Road Transport Corporation. To take advantage of free bus travel, females have to show only their Aadhaar card, and it is a manual verification system. Now the government has planned to launch the Mahalakshmi smart card, which is more efficient and makes this process more convenient for both the passengers and the conductor. This will help to make the complete process streamlined and also improve the transparency.

In the new Mahalakshmi smart card, integrated with a chip, the name, photograph and one QR code with some basic details are mentioned on this card. This card will be linked to the user’s Aadhaar. It is very easy to use, and users can simply scan this card when taking any bus, and it will fast-track the complete ticketing process. This process will make the identification process easier for conductors.

Objective of the Mahalakshmi Smart Card

The main objective behind the launch of the scheme is to empower women and support them financially, and reduce their dependency on others. This scheme was initially started with the name of the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which is one of 6 guarantee schemes of Congress. This is a women’s empowerment scheme in which the state government will help women economically and financially, and women from the economically weaker section will receive various benefits of these schemes. Free bus travel is also a part of this scheme, and the government is now planning to provide a smart card for women for easy bus travel. These smart cards are linked to their Aadhaar, and it is easy to track all the services of all beneficiaries with this one card.

Eligible women can apply for this smart card from MeeSeva centres and TGSRTC bus pass counters. For registration, applicants have to submit their Aadhaar card and a passport-size photograph with their mobile number. The card will be issued after some time, once the processing is completed. With the smart card, take advantage of free bus travel. It is estimated that once the implementation process of smart cards is completed, it will become mandatory for everyone.

Form TGSRTC Counters

• The easiest way to apply for this card is through the TGSRTC counter available at all the bus stands in your area.
• You have to ask them for the Mahalakshmi Smart Card.
• You have to provide your Aadhaar card, passport-size photograph, and contact number.
• When your verification process is completed, the card will be issued in your name.

From MeeSeva Caenters

• You can visit your nearest MeeSeva Centre.
• You can ask them for the Mahalakshmi Smart Card.
• Provide them with details like Aadhaar number, mobile number and passport-size photograph.
• After verification, your card will be issued in your name.

Final Verdict

Mahalakshmi Smart Card was expected to launch on 2nd June. Officially, this is not announced on any government portal or notification. It is came in news that these smart cards will be issued to all the eligible women of Telangana. The main purpose to lauch these smart cards is to modernise the old free bus passes. These passed used by women passengers for free bus travel in TGSRTC. Mahalakshmi scheme was initially introduced on 9th December 2023 in Telangana.

Now governmnet planning to digitalised these normal cards into smart cards. These cards come with Embedded chips, passenger details, a photograph, a QR code, and other details. This card alos liked with the passenger’s Aadhaar card. Women can apply for the cards from Meeseva Centres or TGSRTC Bus pass counters at a very nominal charge of Rs 50. Applicants have to submit some documents like an Aadhaar card, a passport-size photograph, Mobile number with the application form. After cross-checking all details, the card will be issued. Until the smart cards are not full fucntional, till date old cards will be working.
